About Us

A Children’s Theatre of the Mesilla Valley was founded in 1993 by Constance (Suter) Hasapopoulos, whose passion for youth theatre inspired a packed parent meeting and the launch of ACT’s very first classes.

In 1994, ACT presented its debut public production, Yippee for the Wild West, at New Mexico State University—marking the beginning of what would become a thriving performing-arts tradition.

The organization continued to grow, becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2001 and expanding its mission with the creation of the Film Arts Studio, where students learn acting as well as writing, directing, and filmmaking.

By 2019, ACT moved into its own dedicated studio space, opening doors to more classes, rehearsals, and creative opportunities.

Today, ACT remains a vibrant community hub for young performers across southern New Mexico, offering theatre productions, workshops, and film-arts programs that inspire creativity and confidence in students of all ages.

1.1 Mission Statement

At A Children’s Theatre of the Mesilla Valley (ACT), we believe in the transformative power of theatre to inspire young minds and nurture confident, creative individuals. Through engaging, hands-on theatre experiences, children ages 5 to 18 explore their talents, connect with others, and grow both on stage and in life. ACT is a place where every child is celebrated, encouraged, and empowered. To ensure this opportunity is accessible to all families, ACT offers scholarships and financial assistance, making theatre education possible for every child, regardless of their circumstances.

1.2 Our Philosophy

Theatre challenges kids to be brave, bold, and themselves. At ACT, we empower young people to step into the spotlight—whether they’re shy or outgoing, experienced or brand-new. Our talented and caring instructors help students grow as performers and as people, nurturing their ability to lead, listen, express, and collaborate. The confidence they gain here echoes far beyond the final curtain.
